Habitat: Rarely represented mineral. In Croatia, it appears on Medvednica at Gornja Bistra. France, Romania, Switzerland, USA, Japan.
Color: Red, orange-red
Basic information: It crystallizes in the monoclinic system. Crystals are rare , the most common appearance is as coating on other minerals (calcite), grain and earthy aggregates.
Moh’s scale hardness is 1-1.5. It has small cleavage, shelly fracture, and bright orange streak. It is partly translucent, has a greasy to resinuos luster. It oxidizes on the air.
Other information: It is used in the production of paints and sometimes to obtain arsenic.
